The past week we had a strong west wind that precluded any trips beyond 20 miles. Today was a different story. Mother nature gave us the opportunity to strecth our trip out past 30 miles. Vertually everything was perfect, calm sea, no current and clear water. Perfect for chumming up the mangrove snapper.
We started out jigging up 100 or so cigar minnows about 10 miles out. Then once at our spot 34 miles out we went straight for the red snapper. It didn't take long and we had 10 up to 12 pounds in the box. Then we started on the vermillions. They were really nice ones 2-3 pounds each, over 30 of them made the box. Then it was time for the mangroves. We started chumming with small pieces of spanish sardines. The mangroves came right to the top, 5-6 feet from the transom. Once up, we hit them with live cigars and the show was on. These fish varied in size from 4 to 12 pounds. A blast 0n 20 pound line. I enjoyed the day with you and your crew Chuck. TIGHT LINES!
