Sunday, July 12, 2009 - Mr. Schmidt and the Snapper Slappers Back
Seas: 1 FOOT    Water Temp: 84.3°F Crew:
Moon:   Location: 32 MILES ENE
Species: 18 Snapper  Category: Snapper Catches
Report:

After a one day Northeaster this day was perfect. We jigged up around 100 cigar minnows and headed to a plane wreck 32 miles out. Once there the red snapper went nuts. It was only a matter of minutes before we had our 10 in the boat up to 16 pounds. We then tired for the vermillions and caught around 30 really nice ones, but the red snapper were taking the vermillion baits 40 feet off the bottom. We released approximately 15 legal red snapper while trying for the vermillions.

We started chumming for the mangroves and it was only a matter of 2-3 minutes before they were all around the boat. We had Red Snapper, Mangroves, Vermillions and rudderfish under our transom. The crew was fired up looking at all the fish and did a great job catching those large mangroves. Some were over 13 pounds. Another great day Duane! TIGHT LINES!
